FAQS
-
Occupational therapists are healthcare providers who specialize in working with children and adults who face challenges in everyday tasks. We address underlying, physical, cognitive, psychological, behavioral and environmental concerns causing those challenges.
Specifically, at Carolina Sleep Therapy we specialize in sleep disorders. We help individuals who are struggling to obtain restful and restorative sleep. Occupational therapists are remarkably poised to address sleep concerns as primary care team members with knowledge of sleep physiology, sleep disorders and evidence-based sleep promotion practices.
We evaluate and address the ramifications of sleep insufficiency and sleep disorders holistically and through a health maintenance and health promotion framework.
-
Sleep is considered a foundational occupation known as the cornerstone of health because it is essential for survival, daily functioning and psychological needs. Sleep significantly impacts an individual's health, mood and overall quality of life.
Poor sleep interferes with work, school, driving, social functioning, and daily life. It leads to moodiness, agitation, memory problems, fatigue and lack of energy, poor balance and coordination, mental health concerns including anxiety and depression, blurred vision, poor reaction time, a weakened immune system, weight gain, higher stress levels, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and hormonal issues.
-
Our mission is to empower patients to achieve optimal sleep health by providing comprehensive, client-centered care through personalized, evidence-based interventions. Everyone deserves access to this type of healthcare.
By targeting individuals' sleep needs through non-pharmacological means, we can significantly impact their health and the healthcare industry itself. We aim to increase access to non-pharmacological interventions for sleep disorders because sleep medications are known to be habit-forming, can have significant side effects and were never meant for long-term use.
-
Typically, patients require 8–10 weeks of individual sessions 1x per week.

We are an out-of-network clinic and do not directly contract with insurance companies. Typically, insurance will reimburse 60 to 80% of services cost of out of network providers, once your deductible has been met. Out of network services also count towards your deductible with most insurance providers.
Our patients view not contractacting directly with their insurance companies as a positive because we do not have to limit who we can provide services to and we can make medical decisions based on what is best for you, not what your insurance decides they will cover.
Many patients choose not to involve their insurance provider in their treatment. Here are some of the advantages:
The insurance company does not dictate your care—the collaborative efforts formed by my professional expertise and your personal preferences and goals do.
You won’t have a diagnosis label permanently attached to your health record.
Your records are protected, which means the insurance company cannot obtain all information about you, including very personal information.
Many of our patients get reimbursed from their insurance for visits with us. This will depend on whether you have met your deductible and what your benefits are. We simplify this process by providing you with the necessary paperwork for reimbursement within one week of your visit.
This documentation for out-of-network benefits, is called “superbilling,” and can reduce costs. All you will need to do is submit the provided information to your insurance company. Superbilling applies for evaluations and individual sessions only.
Services are also eligible for HSA reimbursement.
