How Does Out-of-Network Reimbursement Work?

Out-of-Network Reimbursement or “Superbilling”

A Superbill is a detailed receipt provided by your healthcare provider (like us!) that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for out-of-network services.

The Reimbursement Process: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Gather Information

  1. Talk with your insurance provider and confirm that your specific plan covers out-of-network occupational therapy services.

  2. Ask what your out-of-network deductible is and if you have met it.

  3. Ask what percentage of services will be reimbursed after you meet your deductible.

  4. Ask if there are any restrictions or documentation requirements.

Step 2: Pay for Your Session

You will pay us directly for each session at the time of service

Step 3: Receive Your Superbill

We will send you a superbill directly, after payment of service, for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement

Step 4: Submit the Superbill to Your Insurance

Your will send the superbill to your insurance provider. This can usually be done via:

  • Your insurance portal

  • Mail

  • Fax

Step 5: Wait for Reimbursement

If your claim is approved, your insurance will send reimbursement directly to you. Processing time can vary depending on your insurance company

Important Tips

  • Keep copies of everything you submit

  • Follow-up with your insurer if you haven’t heard back in 3-4 weeks

  • As an out-of-network provider, reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your specific insurance plan.
